The easiest way to breath new life into your winter style is to wear a statement coat.  I know that reaching for bold colors when it’s dreary out can seem a bit daunting, but part of having great style is confidence.  Plus nothing lifts your mood like adding bright colors or fun patterns to your outfit.  Whether you’re a newbie to the statement coat game or just looking for a new piece to add to your collection here are my tips on how to choose a statement coat:

1. Focus on fit.  You will hear, well see, me say this over and over again here on Lil Miss JB Style.  That is because fit is one of the most crucial elements of style.  Choose a coat that fits your body with and without the extra winter layers.
2. Decide what statement you’re trying to make.  The key here is to really hone in on your personal preferences and how you plan to wear the coat.  If you want to still be able to wear it to work, then don’t go too over board and stick with a classic yet bold color like red.
3. Choose a color or pattern that is versatile.  The reason a bold red coat or suede jacket are timeless decisions is because they can work with a majority of what you already own while still making a statement.  Take into account what’s already in your closet when picking a coat so that you can be sure you already have clothes to wear with it.

The last thing you want to keep in mind is that not every statement coat is an investment.  If you’re choosing a trendier coat, like this blush faux fur coat, then it’s best not to splurge.  On the flip if you see yourself rocking your statement coat for the next 5 years or more, then it’s probably okay to spend a little bit more money.  Personally I like to pin pricier items onto my style finds board and wait for them to go on sale, but that’s just me.  See how else you can wear a statement coat.
