Even though summer hasn’t officially started beach season is upon us! I have to say I couldn’t be more ready. Last summer I purchased a paddleboard and found myself out at some beach at least 3 times a week. And while it’s fun to be out in the sun, it’s also important that you’re protected. I’m not just talkin about wearing sunscreen, although sis I highly recommend you put some on, I’m talking about swimsuit coverups. Depending on your destination and what you plan to do, it’s important to have a coverup that will shield you from the sun without making you feel like you’re going to pass out from heat exhaustion! I put together some tips below on choosing the right style for you plus I’ve rounded up my top picks that you’ll want to wear for years to come.
Choosing the right swimsuit coverup for you
rThere are a couple of things you should consider before purchasing a swimsuit coverup to make sure you’re buying one that fits your needs:
- Fabric: this is the most important thing to look at when choosing a coverup. You want something that’s going to be breathable, think linen and cotton. Try to avoid polyester or viscose because even if the piece is sheer, it still won’t let air in or out.
- Activities: depending on what you’ll be doing you want something that will work for the occasion. Button ups and dresses are perfect for protecting your shoulders and back while still allowing you to get in the water. Beach pants are great for more coverage of you lower half to walk around. Also don’t forget about hats as a way to shade your face from the sun.
- Fit: similar to activities you want to make sure the style you choose works with your body and that you can move in. Avoid buying overly fitted clothes as they’ll cause you to sweat more. The goal is for these pieces to be breathable and skin tight clothes don’t allow for much airflow, plus they can be hard to move in when wet.
