With the temperatures consistently in the 90’s here in Michigan, I find myself reaching for outfits that beat the heat but can also resist the AC. Queue summer layers. Now I know what you’re thinking, how can you possible considering layering anything in this kind of weather? But when done correctly, layers are a chic way to add interest to a look and keep cool in the heat. So if you’re wondering how you can layer like a pro, here are my tips for layering in the summer:
- Choose the right materials. One of the most important things for keeping cool in the heat is lightweight fabrics. Skip heavy denim and reach for cotton, chiffon, and linen.
- Play with length. Most people tend to gravitate towards longer pieces to layer with, but cropped styles are a great way to add interest as well.
- Experiment with your color palette. Layering is a great way to introduce a pop of color, print, or another neutral.
- Keep your proportions in mind. You want to keep in mind where your clothes are starting and ending to ensure that they create a balanced look.
Whether you’re layering with a nude vest or denim jacket, it’s a great way to not only stay cool, but look cool too. If you found this post useful then check out how to rock layers in the spring.
