ASOS Midi Dress Walking

To me midi dresses are a thing of wonder.  First I wondered if they were even meant for me but now I wonder how I’ve lived so long without them.  Though I am not normally the dress type, see my ode to being a tomboy, I’ve found this piece is quickly becoming a staple in my wardrobe.  What makes midi dresses so awesome is that they are an extremely versatile garment that can go from work to weekend, casual to dress with a few minor adjustments which is great news for your pockets.  The downside of midi dresses is that choosing one can be a little tricky for those of us who are not the dress type of gal, but never fear because here are some tips to help you pick one with ease:

  1. Pay attention to the shape.  First and foremost you need to choose a dress in a cut that works for your body type, and  just because Kim K thinks it’s okay to pregnant and rock a bodycon midi that looks practically see through doesn’t mean you should.  If you’re curvy avoid shapeless cuts like shift dresses, if you want to define your midsection opt for a fit and flare style.
  2. Really feel the fabric.  This is especially true if you’re going to wear a bodycon style, you want to be sure that the material is comfortable to be in.
  3. Bust a move or two. Don’t forget to make sure that you can move in the midi dress, though you don’t need moves like Drake, you should check to be sure that you can do all your daily activities without any issues.
  4. Do a length check.  Be sure that the dress doesn’t fall in a place that makes you look abnormally short, sticking to a hemline that ends just below your knees or mid calf should do the trick.

Midi dresses make a perfect blank canvas in the fall which allows you to practice your accessorizing skills.  Personally I am very minimal on jewelry as the weather cools, but turn to cute shoes and fun clutches for a pop of JB Style.  See how else I styled a similar dress with menswear accessories and with fall classics.
