Rocking high waist pants in spring

First I’d like to apologize for the absence.  I was very blessed to spend Easter weekend with my father and brother in Baltimore.  From traveling to D.C. to see the sights, stuffing my face with delicious food and forgetting my laptop, it was basically a recipe for me missing a blog post.  But never fear I came back just for you guys. Secondly I owe whoever re-introduced high waist pants to the fashion scene a standing ovation.  Because they are a major staple in my wardrobe ever since. Especially now that it’s spring, it only feels right to break away from darker shades for something light.  From classic mom-jeans to this statement khaki pair I can’t get enough.  In fact almost every pair of bottoms I owe are high waist style.  If you’re a little confused about my obsession, don’t worry because my mom is too.

While on some people high waist pants tend to make what they’re trying to conceal worse, for me it’s ultra flattering.  Not only does it help to define my waist but keeps any belly bulge in check.  Plus it doesn’t hurt that it makes my legs look a mile long.  On top of all that I don’t have to worry about my crack showing when I sit or bend over.  And with my booty that is a very REAL concern.  So today I wanted to share tips on how to make high waist pants spring friendly, and no worries, these tips will work on other styles of pants too:

  1. Choose pants in a light color.  Now this might seem pretty obvious, but for those of us with hips and thighs I know lighter bottoms aren’t our first choice.  But, but, but as the weather gets warmer it’s nice to step away from blacks or navy for fresher colors.  And lighter colors attract far less sun, making them a cooler options on many levels.  If you’re afraid to try anything too bright then branch out with traditional tans or beige.
  2. Use a light colored top to your advantage.  As you may, or may not, know lighter colors appear to expand the body.  To offset wearing lighter pants reach for an even lighter top if you’re worried about having uneven proportions.  Personally I gravitate towards tops that have a lengthening effect to make my torso appear longer.  So if you’re wearing beige, reach for white or even pastels and bonus if they have vertical stripes!
  3. Play with layers.  If you’re self conscious about your frame, although I promise you have no reason to be, try adorning a jacket.  If you want to show off your snatched waist from hours at the gym, or just passing on dessert, reach for a cropped style.  For those trying to slenderize your hips pick a longline style in a darker shade which will help to make you look slimmer.
  4. Don’t forget accessories.  For a while I overlooked jewelry.  I don’t like the feel of cold metal on my skin in the winter so I simply reached for a hat or a pair of shades.  Now that springs in full effect I find that I’m adding more bling as well.  This is another way to give your outfit personal flair as well as bring it into the spring season.  Personally I’m loving statement earrings as a way to punch up a look, but don’t be afraid of a bold cocktail ring or chunky Iris Apfel style bracelets.

Whether your a fan of high waist pants or not these tips will definitely take your look from winter to spring with ease.  No purchases necessary!  The biggest thing is to have fun with your clothes, re-imagine how to wear them and rock what makes you feel confident!  If you’re loving these pants see how else you can wear high waist pants in spring.  Otherwise keep scrolling to shop the look.

I totally can relate on the high waist pants trend. The more the merrier! My figure is not conducive to Lo-rise. I’ll take a pair of high waist trousers any day. Those khaki ones look fab on you. That double belt look is really unique. Love the outfit.

Low rise are definitely a more fussy style for me. I feel like I have to constantly pull them over or have a shirt tucked in so I can sit down safely. I’m really glad you loved the outfit and stopped by to share Theresa!

I love all the elements you put into this outfit, the denim jacket, the striped shirt, and the pants (even the fur purse!). It’s a very unique and cohesive look. I have a pair of high waist pants I wear all year round, they are probably my favorite pair.
