One thing I can always count on with the changing of the seasons is a sense of restlessness. As summer takes its leave, my creativity departs along with it. And every September I stare into my closet and feel hopelessly uninspired. Like something is always missing. It’s during these times of outfit block I turn to my fall wardrobe staples. Those pieces I always find myself returning to, like the memories of summer nights that have past. While defining my go-to items for the season comes easy to me I know that for you it might be a struggle. So today I’m sharing how you can choose fall wardrobe staples that work perfectly for your style, as well as pieces I’m lusting after myself!
For most of you picking staples for your wardrobe can seem like a daunting task that will eat up endless hours and tons of your money. First there’s the impossible task of choosing a color palette and esthetic. Which usually means scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram until the wee hours of the morning. Then comes the struggle of hunting down specific pieces that fit into your ideal image and price range. You know, scrounging through hundreds of websites or unkept racks of clothing. And after all that’s said and done you have to hope what you want is available in a size that fits. But that doesn’t have to be your experience! The art of choosing your fall wardrobe staples is as easy as following these steps:
- Pay attention to items you regularly wear and feel amazing in. Don’t re-invent the wheel when it comes to your staples. Make a note or look back at photos of outfits that made you feel great. For me a cozy white tee and figure flattering jeans are a constant go-to combo making them no-brainer staples for me.
- Update any year round staples that no longer fit. Odds are you already own the perfect staples for fall but they just don’t fit right. Take the time to replace any ill fitting items with ones that make you feel unstoppable.
- Think versatility when adding seasonal pieces. Choose clothes or accessories that work for multiple occasions throughout the season to give you the most bang for your buck. And to make you dollars stretch even further find pieces that can go from season to season and be re-styled multiple ways.
The last thing to keep in mind when choosing fall wardrobe staples is that they will vary person to person depending on their life, style and budget. What some may consider a must have for the season may not work for you. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t branch out to try something new even if it doesn’t seem like a perfect fit. You might be surprised with how much you like it!
