I don’t know about you but when I’m into something I am REALLY into something. I throw myself in at full speed, so much so it almost becomes an obsession. Like hunting down a song you heard then playing it on repeat. Recently for me it’s been learning to create edgier looks. A lot of you said that you struggle to elevate your basics so I’ve been looking at ways to do just that this season. Personally I like to do the hardest things first. So earlier in the fall I played with a lot of prints, like snake print and leopard print, because they’re typically the most overwhelming for people to incorporate into their style. But now that the temperatures are cooling I’ve transitioned into elevating my looks with textures. I love leaning back on textures to add interest a look because it’s so easy. Take my faux fur bomber here, without it the outfit would still be okay but layering it really brought this edgy jumpsuit outfit together. What makes adding textures so easy is that you can stay within your preferred color palette. If loud colors or prints aren’t you’re thing you can still elevate your basics using this trick. The key is to choose pieces that can replace things you would normally reach for. A shaggy faux fur bomber instead of a leather jacket or a teddy fanny pack instead of a brown leather purse. That way you don’t feel like you’re overextending yourself. But be realistic with what you will wear and be patient until you find a piece that meets your needs. Too often people run out and buy just anything instead of thoughtfully finding a piece that will actually work for their style. Take time to truly evaluate opportunities to introduce texture in a way that feels natural to you!
