As the leaves change colors with the arrival of fall, my wardrobe typically follows suit, see what I did there. Gone are my summer brights and exchanged for more muted tones like this burgundy suit. The great thing about a two piece suit in an unexpected color that’s perfect for fall is that color blocking doesn’t have to end just because the warm weather has. Though monochrome is all the rage, see how I wore all grey or all neutrals, color blocking is a fresh break from the monotony. Here are some of my tips to help you nail color blocking for fall like a pro:
- Start with a color that flatters your skin. One thing most people forget is to wear colors that compliment their skin tone, the result is that they usually look older, larger and overall unflattering. Take the time to find what colors work for you and wear them closer to your face.
- If you’re a beginner stick to mixing two colors. Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to fit every color under the sun in your outfit. Start simple by picking a top and bottom in different colors.
- Anchor your look with neutrals. Bring your look together by wearing neutral accessories to keep your outfit from looking too busy.
- Use nature for inspiration. With the leaves changing colors, pumpkin spice taking over and apple cider donuts, yum, look to nature to not only choose fall colors but also on how to mix and match them as well!
Color blocking isn’t just for the warmer months, but an easy way to spice up your fall. At the end of the day make sure you are wearing something that not only reflects who you are but also makes you feel good about yourself! See how else I’ve styled this suit for a fashion show and a night out.

thanks for sharing. sticking to two colors at first is a great idea.
You’re welcome Ericka, I’m glad you found it useful!
I am loving this outfit. I always think of bold bright summer colors when color blocking but I can see how this would work with fall colors. I also agree sticking to 2 colors is smart you don’t want to mix too many and just seem messy. Thanks for sharing
I used to think the same thing, but I got bored of just wearing dark colors in the fall and so it just made sense to find a way to do it with my fall colors as well! Thanks for stopping by Dia!
This color is beautiful! Love the bag, too!
