It’s official, fall is in the air. Between the cool morning air turning into mild midday temps I need an extra layer to keep me warm and lately I’ve been dusting off my denim jackets to finish off my looks. While blue is a great choice for the season, my black denim jacket has really been getting the most love. I’ve said this before but I think it’s worth repeating that one of the joys of blogging is being able to watch your style evolve. Not only can you see what’s changed but you can appreciate the pieces, outfits and styles that have stuck over time. This look is really a modern day shout out to my younger self. I remember when I first moved to Detroit I wore an outfit similar to this walking around the Eastern Market. As I made my way through the rows of fruits and veggies in my black wide brim hat, long blue denim jacket, this very shirt dress and some leopard Jesus sandals someone said I looked like I came straight out of an Urban Outfitters ad. High praise for me at the time. Fast forward to today and I’m just now noticing that over the years I keep reinventing this look. Here’s a casual version with sneakers, one where I rock a blazer and today’s edgier, grown and sexy take. The base of this look is a simple white button down shirt dress. Worn on it’s own you probably wouldn’t look at it twice but it’s so comfortable that I can’t help but reach for it even though I’ll need another layer to keep warm. Enter the black denim jacket. It’s such an effortlessly easy piece to throw on yet it screams edgy, cool vibes. Then I grabbed my snake print knee high boots which I have been wearing almost as obsessively as my denim jackets since the temperatures have dropped. Seriously I’ve worn them so much I’m dropping a post on all the ways to wear them later this month! What makes this pair of boots perfect is that the print is a classic color so they go with pretty much everything. The brown and black keep them from being too loud but still make a statement. To really drive home the edge I reached for my trusty croc fanny pack. Slinging the bum bag over my shoulder is super stylish while keeping it accessible making it the cherry on top of this easy, edgy fall outfit.
