Dear readers, contrary to popular belief we all have body hang ups.  While many bloggers appear to be confident and smiling in their photos, we’re always secretly hoping none of them are noticeable  For style mavens covering up flaws is as easy a front tuck here, concealer there and a jacket on top, but for most women it’s a real struggle.  Especially now that the majority of full time bloggers have turned into mini advertisement agencies it’s harder for women to tell what’s real, what’s plastic and what’s photoshopped.  I don’t know about you but some times it’s tiring seeing so much perfection while your life feels like it’s going up in flames.

So what’s a girl, or guy, to do when they’re concerned about their body hang ups?

  1. Realize that a lot of it is in your mind. 9 times out of 10 the things that we don’t like about ourselves are things that no one else notices.  Or at least have the decency not to bring up to our faces.  Many times we make ourselves feel bad about things that are totally normal and other people genuinely don’t give a fuck about.  I mean I’ve been hit on while my face was covered in pimples, if that’s not proof I don’t know what is.
  2. Stop comparing!  If I’ve learned anything it’s that comparison really is the thief of joy.  I don’t know how many times I’ve felt perfectly happy with where I was until I looked at someone’s life and within seconds felt completely inadequate.  The moment you feel yourself comparing, stop and remind yourself of all the amazing qualities you have!  It’s the one law of substitution they never taught in math class.
  3. Remove things that trigger body negativity.  Everyone always talks about body positivity but never addresses the negatives.  Let’s be honest some of our body hang ups are totally justified, having thick thighs that pants can’t get past can damage your ego.  But it’s important to remove the things that cause you to feel negatively about yourself.  So say bye bye to those pair of jeans you haven’t been able to fit in since high school.
  4. Practice the art of self love.  Continuing with the list of things you were never taught in school.  It’s so important to find activities that make you feel good about your body while helping you reach your best self.  Whether it’s cooking a nice meal or enjoying a yoga session, make time for things that make you forget about your flaws.  Personally I’m all about a relaxing soak in the tub with a bath bomb…too bad my new apartment only has a shower.
  5. Find what works for you.  It’s so easy to try to copy and paste a look that in the end makes you feel more self conscious than before.  Take the time to find items that help you to feel better about your body hang ups.  It could be the perfect pair of booties that hides your “cankles” or a dress that hugs your curves just right.  Though this takes some patience, in the long run you’ll be thankful you took the time to curate a wardrobe that makes you look and feel immaculate.  Keep in mind that clothes were made to fit you, not the other way around!

It would be amazing if we could feel great about ourselves all the time, but that’s just not realistic.  Like life, our body image will have ups and downs.  The goal is surround yourself with things that remind you of how great you are!  Even if you’re big booty won’t fit in that swimsuit you love.
